Performance Lab Technician

This position will be an entry level position.  No immediate qualifications required.

ATS Performance Lab technician loading Hamburg Wheel Tracking samplesThe Performance Lab Technician will measure, mix, test and record data for asphalt hot mix materials.  This Technician will be under the direct supervision of the Performance Lab Manager.  Responsibilities include:

  • learning and following correct test methods
  • performing asphalt and aggregates tests
  • assist with making asphalt mixtures as prescribed by a mix design
  • keep accurate account of projects/data using laboratory notebook/performance lab data worksheets
  • provide project progress during group meetings
  • maintain a clean and orderly work space in the lab
  • material inventory
  • assist in material preparation for mix design and performance testing sample fabrication
  • other duties as assigned

The technician is responsible for updating their supervisor on the status of their progress within their assigned project.

The Performance Lab Technician must possess the following:

  • Knowledge and ability to perform basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages and weights. Algebra is a plus.).
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and methods.
  • Must be able to read and use basic measuring devices, i.e. scales, calipers.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work i.e., lift and move up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Good penmanship and record keeping.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
  • A strong work ethic with highly organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and use Microsoft-related applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Ability to operate computer-based testing equipment.

Level 1 & Level 2 Asphalt Plant Quality Control/Quality Assurance Technician

CTQP Level 1 Asphalt Plant TechnicianIndividuals with current Asphalt Plant Level 1 and Level 2 certifications will conduct tests on hot mix asphalt and materials to determine compliance to applicable specifications. Works in conjunction with asphalt plant personnel and government agencies. Responsibilities include:

  • Perform sampling testing on hot mix asphalt, aggregates, related asphalt mixtures and other materials
  • Accurate reporting of results to management
  • Investigate and troubleshoot quality control issues and resolve discrepancies between test results
  • Other duties as assigned

The Level 1 & Level 2 Technician must possess the following:

  • Knowledge of hot mix asphalt quality control data and FDOT job specifications
  • Experience with asphalt lab equipment
  • Familiarity with the paving process
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends when required

 

Level 1 & Level 2 Asphalt Paving Quality Control/Quality Assurance Technician

Individuals must have current Asphalt Paving Level 1 and Level 2 certifications.  Responsible for quality control/quality assurance and reporting to and assisting the contractor during paving operations.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Perform quality control of contractor’s operations (compliance with specifications)
  • Safely and efficiently collect samples for testing asphalt materials
  • Perform asphalt coring operations
  • Utilize nuclear density gauges for asphalt compaction
  • Perform sampling, testing and reporting according to established protocol in a timely manner
  • Report non-compliant test results to superintendent when applicable
  • Maintain daily record of test results, prepare daily reports and submit results to management
  • Other duties as assigned

The Level 1 & Level 2 Technicians must possess the following:

  • Working knowledge of FDOT job specifications
  • Familiarity of the paving process
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends when required

Asphalt Binder Lab Technician

Asphalt Binder Technician at Asphalt Testing SOlutions & Engineering Asphalt LabThe Binder Lab Technician will complete testing of asphalt binder and asphalt emulsions through AASHTO and ASTM test procedures. This technician will be under the direct supervision of the Binder Lab Manager. Responsibilities include:

  • learning and following correct test methods
  • follow direction and guidelines on research and development projects
  • provide project progress during group meetings
  • maintain a clean and orderly work space in the lab
  •  other duties as assigned
