Level 1 & Level 2 Asphalt Paving Quality Control/Quality Assurance Technician

A Paving Quality Control/Quality Assurance Technician​We are seeking individuals with current Asphalt Paving Level 1 and Level 2 certifications. Responsible for quality control/quality assurance and reporting to and assisting the contractor during paving operations. Other responsibilities include:

  • Perform quality control of contractor’s operations (compliance with specifications)
  • Safely and efficiently collect samples for testing asphalt materials
  • Perform asphalt coring operations
  • Utilize nuclear density gauges for asphalt compaction
  • Perform sampling, testing and reporting according to established protocol in a timely manner
  • Report non-compliant test results to superintendent when applicable
  • Maintain daily record of test results, prepare daily reports and submit results to management
  • Other duties as assigned

The Level 1 & Level 2 Technicians must possess the following:

  • Working knowledge of FDOT job specifications
  • Familiarity of the paving process
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends when required

Level 1 & Level 2 Asphalt Plant Quality Control/Quality Assurance Technician

An Asphalt Plant Quality Control/Quality Assurance TechnicianWe are seeking individuals with current Asphalt Plant Level 1 and Level 2 certifications to conduct tests on hot mix asphalt and materials to determine compliance to applicable specifications. Works in conjunction with asphalt plant personnel and government agencies. Responsibilities include:

  • Perform sampling testing on hot mix asphalt, aggregates, related asphalt mixtures and other materials
  • Accurate reporting of results to management
  • Investigate and troubleshoot quality control issues and resolve discrepancies between test results
  • Other duties as assigned

The Level 1 & Level 2 Technician must possess the following:

  • Knowledge of hot mix asphalt quality control data and FDOT job specifications
  • Experience with asphalt lab equipment
  • Familiarity with the paving process
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends when required

Mix Design Lab Technician

A Mix Design Lab TechnicianThis position will be an entry level position.  No immediate qualifications required.

As a Lab Technician, you will be measuring, mixing, testing and recording data for asphalt mix designs.

Job Dimensions

The Mix Design Laboratory Technician will be under the direct supervision of the Lab Mix Designer.  The Mix Design Laboratory Technician is responsible for listening to and understanding the tasks assigned to him/her by their supervisor. Daily tasks include but are not limited to maintaining data accumulation for current mix designs that are in process, data worksheets, aggregate testing, following correct test methods, material inventory and mixture testing. This also involves updating the supervisor on status of materials and problems as they occur.


  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent

Minimum Skills and Requirements

  • Knowledge and ability to perform basic mathematical functions (adding, subtracting, division, multiplication, percentages and weights).
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and methods.
  • Must be able to read and use basic measuring devices, i.e. scales, beakers.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for the territory of operation.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work i.e., lift and move up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Good penmanship and record keeping.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
  • A great work ethic/Highly organized.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and use Microsoft-related applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Ability to operate computer-based testing equipment.

  • Assist with making asphalt mixtures based on a given mix design.
  • Assist with performing tests on the mixes to ensure they conform to requirements of industry standards.
  • Keep accurate account of projects/data using laboratory notebook/electronic notebook.
  • Provide project progress during group meetings.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work space in the lab.
  • Work will include testing related to the development and maintenance of asphalt-based products such as aggregates, reclaimed asphalt product, and liquid asphalt binders.

Context and Environment

The job involves the ability to work in a dynamic environment. This ranges from data entry, learning about the science behind liquid asphalt binder systems, to physical repetitive tasks for testing.
